Google Trends is Cool; People Like Cake Better Than Cheese (Except Around Hanukkah and Christmas)
Google Trends is cool. You can enter comma-separated search terms and do trend comparisons based on search terms entered by users from around the world over the past few years.
Today I learned that cake is almost always more popular than cheese except around Hanukkah and Christmas. Look here (cake vs. cheese at Google Trends), at the end of 2004 and 2005 near Christmas and Hanukkah there are these big spikes in interest in both cheese and cake and at that time they are tied in popularity! How intriguing! … Hmmm, now that I think about it, the first of the two spikes at the ends of the years are probably Thanksgiving, not Hanukkah. Sorry, my Jewish friends 
Take a look at Pope John Paul II vs. Mother Teresa. They’re mostly neck and neck except for around PJP2′s death. But take a look at the regional tab. Mother Teresa is WAY more popular than Pope John Paul in New Zealand, but The Papa is infinitely more popular than Mother Teresa in Nigeria, Mother T doesn’t even register in Nigeria!
