Jackpot! 1993-95 Wired Magazine Haul
I am a geek. I’ll admit it. I love computer and internet history. You should see my bookshelf. I went to the U of I in the early nineties in the golden days of the internet when Mosaic was born there at the NCSA; I look fondly upon those early days of surfing the web and creating my first web sites, etc.
As a bonafide geek, I have heard that the first two years of Wired magazine are required reading. I have been looking for those 1993-1995 issues for a while. I’ve searched Ebay with little luck. Today and stumbled upon 13 issues from those first two years and I am excited to dive into them. I found them at Half Price Books. 12 bucks for 13 issues. If you have a Half Price Books in your area, you should go check it out. They’ve got tons of cool used books, magazine and records. It is my Saturday ritual to go look for old cool vinyl records there. Today I also came home with an old Ministry record.
I don’t know why I like computer and internet history so much, but I do. It is interesting reading these articles talking about the birth of Java and Netscape and other product launches, some that went on to become the gold standard and some that never went anywhere and that I had totally forgot about.
